Authorities have released new details after a police officer was shot in Monroeville on Wednesday.

Police confirmed that it was a sergeant who was shot, and the suspect is facing several charges.

Allegheny County detectives are trying to figure out the identity of the man who shot the Monroeville police sergeant several times Wednesday evening.

Police say that man was not cooperating with officers or answering their questions and wouldn’t even tell them his name.

Officials say he is currently lodged in the Allegheny County Jail.

Investigators say around 9 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report of an armed robbery at the Crumbl Cookie, located in the “Miracle Mile Shopping Center" on William Penn Highway.

A Monroeville officer reportedly spotted someone, who matched the suspect's description, on Monroeville Boulevard near Stone Cliff Drive.

Police say the suspect fired several shots into the police cruiser hitting the officer in the elbow and his hip.

"The suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple shots. The officer was struck multiple times. His vehicle was also struck multiple times,” said Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns.

As of Thursday afternoon, officials say the officer is in stable condition at Forbes Hospital.
